Hi! My name is Amanda Blackwood and I am so excited to join the White Oak Elementary family! This will not only be my first year here, but my first year teaching 4th grade. I have, however, had 17 years of experience in education, including teaching 3rd grade for the past four years. I believe that my time spent in 3rd grade will be a huge asset to teaching 4th grade this year due to the early school closure last spring.

I have always had a heart for children and knew at an early age that I wanted to be a teacher. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of West Georgia. As I said before, this will be my first year teaching 4th, but I have had the opportunity to teach PreK, Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th at two private schools and two other Coweta County public schools. I feel that my time in each of those grade levels has helped me grow as an educator. So much so, that I decided to go back to school two years ago where I earned a Master’s of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at LaGrange College.

I love teaching, but I also love my family and friends! My husband, James, and I have been married for 19 years. We have two amazing children, Troy (16) and Mallory (14), who attend East Coweta High School (my alma mater). They are both very active with school activities, so most weekends in the fall are spent watching Troy run varsity races with cross country and Mallory cheering on the sidelines at football games or competitions with the JV cheerleading team. We also adore our RealChurch family and participate in the Praise Band most Sundays.

This school year may be starting off differently than normal, but I truly look forward to it being one of the best years yet! All we need to do is work together and have a positive attitude! Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child and I can’t wait to get started!
